I know I’ve promised my newly instated “Wordless Wednesday” entries but this Wednesday cannot be wordless. Not when I’ve recently spent Saturday afternoon with the two women behind Too Hot Tamales: Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken.

Mary Sue Milliken & Susan Feniger

The California Avocado Commission invited me along with other Southern California food bloggers to partake in a “Guacamole Challenge” Top Chef style, and a nice lunch that Susan and Mary Sue cooked for us, while offering insight on cooking techniques and cuisine. I mustn’t forget the cornucopia of cocktails to quench our thirst: margaritas, sangrias and mojitos! The event all took place at Cuidad, which is owned by Susan and Mary Sue and boasts modern and upscale Mexican cuisine. So good!

The duo cooked:
Crispy California Avocado Taco
California Avocado, Bacon, and Tomato Salad
Chicken and California Avocado Skillet Chilaquiles
California Avocado and Mango with Yogurt
California Avocado and Orange Liquido with a Lavender Shortbread Cookie

The Guacamole Challenge was a blast! I had the pleasure of teaming up with Jen from Domestic Divas Blog. After three minutes of ingredient review and five very short minutes of guacamole making, Jen and I received 2nd place! I’ll be posting the recipe shortly friends.

I kindly thank the California Avocado Commission for inviting me to this fun and interactive event, and thanks to Susan and Mary Sue for their generosity and delicious lunch!

Wordless Wednesday.

new beginnings

This is something I’ve seen quite frequently in the blogging world and I thought I’d partake in the wordless wonder. Why? Here’s why:

    1. I get to practice taking nonfood pictures with my camera.
    2. You all are guaranteed a visual treat every Wednesday. Can’t beat that!
    3. It will allow me to find beauty in other things, perhaps random or the obvious. We’ll see.

Wordless Wednesdays is simply a post with an image and no recipe but sometimes a background story. I say “sometimes” because if you like to tell stories, it’s hard to hold back especially if there is a captivating image involved!

Anyhow, I call this Wordless Wednesday entry “New Beginnings” because the sunrise reminds me that each day is different and to embrace each day open-minded.

The second and major reason I call this “New Beginnings” is because my sister just started her new job and I am thrilled for her! Melissa, you rock! If you’re friends with her on Facebook, stop by and say hello!
